The short answer: Start with TrustedHouseSitters for global coverage. Add the regional platform for your target country. Browse listings for free on any platform before paying. The right moment to join is when you find a sit you want to apply for.
We have completed 17 sits across 11 countries, 15 of them through TrustedHouseSitters and 2 arranged privately. Our first sit came from a single listing I found on TrustedHouseSitters while looking for somewhere to stay near Caro in Bochum. That sit cost €97 to access and saved us over €2,000 in accommodation. Every platform recommendation below is based on real data and, where noted, personal experience.

The Overall Best: TrustedHouseSitters
TrustedHouseSitters is the platform we use and the one we recommend as a starting point for most sitters. The reason is volume. With over 4,000 European listings alone, plus thousands more across North America, Australia, and beyond, THS has more sits than any other platform in the world. More listings means more applications, which means reaching your first review faster.
The platform's verification and blind review system is the most developed in the industry. ID verification, reference checks, and the blind submission process (neither party sees the other's review until both are submitted) create genuine accountability in both directions. Our 15 THS reviews represent the foundation of every application we send now.
THS pricing (before 25% discount): Sitter plans run $129 (Basic) to $259 (Premium) per year. Combined homeowner and sitter plans run $209 to $399. The Premium plan adds the Sit Cancellation Plan, the 24/7 vet advice line, and enhanced support. The Standard plan at around $97 after our discount is sufficient for most new sitters and pays for itself in the first two or three nights of accommodation saved.
What THS does best: global reach, verification infrastructure, listing volume, community reviews.
Where THS is thinner: France (40 listings vs Nomador's 910), Australia and New Zealand (where local platforms significantly outperform it), some Balkan countries, and very rural or niche regions. THS also charges a booking fee on top of the annual membership for some membership tiers, which is worth factoring into your total cost.

Best House Sitting Sites by Region
Best for the United Kingdom
The UK is the most developed house sitting market in the world. TrustedHouseSitters has approximately 3,843 UK listings, making it dominant here by a significant margin.
🥇 TrustedHouseSitters — ~3,843 listings. If you are sitting in the UK, this is your primary platform. The volume is unmatched.
🥈 House Sitters UK — A regional platform with a UK-only focus. Smaller listing count than THS but lower competition per listing and a community specifically oriented around UK sits. Worth adding alongside THS for 15% off with code HSG15.
Our verdict: THS first, House Sitters UK as a secondary. The two together give you comprehensive UK coverage.

Best for Australia
🥇 Aussie House Sitters — The dominant platform for Australian sits with deep local coverage across all states. The community is specifically Australian, which means homeowners are accustomed to the local exchange model and listings tend to be well-maintained.
🥈 MindMyHouse AU — The second strongest local option for Australia after Aussie House Sitters. Worth considering as an affordable addition.
🥉 TrustedHouseSitters — Also has Australian listings but is noticeably weaker here than in Europe or North America. Use it as a third option rather than a primary one for Australia-focused sits.
Use code HSG15 for 15% off Aussie House Sitters.

Best for New Zealand
🥇 Kiwi House Sitters — New Zealand's leading local platform. For sits in New Zealand specifically, Kiwi House Sitters has deeper coverage than THS. The platform has a well-established community and strong listings across both North and South Islands.
TrustedHouseSitters is notably weaker in New Zealand than in its core markets. Kiwi House Sitters should be your primary platform for NZ-focused sits.
Use code HSG15 for 15% off.

Best for the United States
🥇 TrustedHouseSitters — The largest listing count for US sits, particularly strong in coastal cities and popular destinations. The verification and review system is also the most robust for American sitters seeking accountability.
🥈 House Sitters America — A US-focused regional platform worth considering alongside THS, particularly for sitters based in or targeting the US market.
Use code HSG15 for 15% off House Sitters America.

Best for France
France is the clearest case where TrustedHouseSitters is not the right primary platform.
🥇 Nomador — 910 French listings compared to THS's 40. Nomador was built in France and has the strongest French community on any house sitting platform. Many listings are in French, and Caro's German language ability extends to French sits where needed.
🥈 TrustedHouseSitters — Worth maintaining alongside Nomador for broader European coverage, but Nomador is the primary platform for France.
Nomador pricing: €34 (Standard) to €189 (Premium) per year. Also offers homeowner-only plans.

Best for Canada
🥇 TrustedHouseSitters — THS actually has more Canadian listings than the local alternative, making it the primary platform for Canadian sits.
🥈 House Sitters Canada — Canada's dedicated local platform worth adding alongside THS. At $59 CAD per year for sitters and $29 CAD lifetime for homeowners, it is a reasonably priced addition for anyone focused on Canada.
Use code HSG15 for 15% off House Sitters Canada.
Best for Continental Europe (Outside France)
🥇 TrustedHouseSitters — Despite the UK-heavy distribution (91% of European THS listings are in the UK), THS still has the largest absolute count for most continental European countries.
🥈 MindMyHouse — At around $29 per year, MindMyHouse is the most cost-effective addition for continental European sits. It has 122 European listings with meaningful coverage in Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, and Switzerland. THS has more listings in each of those countries, but MindMyHouse's marginal cost is low enough that adding it is a easy decision for any sitter targeting that region.
🥉 Nomador — Also worth considering for Switzerland (45 Nomador listings vs THS's 28) and Belgium (50 Nomador listings vs THS's 14).
Our full country-by-country breakdown with listing counts for all three platforms is in our Europe guide.
Niche and Specialist Platforms
Luxury House Sitting
Luxury House Sitting is designed for high-end property sits — villas, estates, and premium properties. At $45 per year for sitters it is affordably priced, but the honest reality is that listing volume is very low. In practice, more luxury property listings appear on TrustedHouseSitters and regional platforms than on Luxury House Sitting itself. We would not recommend it as a primary platform. For $29 you could join MindMyHouse and access significantly more listings globally. If luxury properties are your focus, THS is the more practical route.
House Carers
House Carers is a global platform and one of the older names in house sitting. Sitter membership is around $50 per year with homeowner sign-up free. The honest assessment: at $50 per year you could instead join MindMyHouse for $29 and access more listings globally with a more modern interface. House Carers feels dated and the listing count does not justify its price relative to the alternatives. Worth knowing about, but not our recommendation when better-value options exist. Note also that House Carers requires registration before browsing.
How to Choose: The Decision Framework
If you are sitting anywhere globally and want the widest possible choice, start with TrustedHouseSitters. If you are targeting a specific country, add the relevant regional platform. If you are targeting continental Europe outside France, add MindMyHouse. If France is your focus, start with Nomador.
Browse listings for free on any platform before paying. Find a sit you want to apply for, then join. Your membership is working from the moment you submit your first application, not from the date you sign up.
| Your situation | Recommended platforms |
|---|---|
| Sitting anywhere globally | TrustedHouseSitters |
| UK focus | THS + House Sitters UK |
| Australia focus | Aussie House Sitters + MindMyHouse AU + THS |
| New Zealand focus | Kiwi House Sitters + THS |
| France focus | Nomador + THS |
| Canada focus | House Sitters Canada + THS |
| USA focus | THS + House Sitters America |
| Continental Europe | THS + MindMyHouse + Nomador for France/Switzerland |
| Luxury properties | Luxury House Sitting + THS |
| Budget-conscious, global | THS Standard + House Carers |
Conclusion
The platform you choose determines the sits you can access. TrustedHouseSitters is where we started. Fifteen of our 17 sits have come through it. It remains the right first platform for most people. Regional platforms are additions, not replacements. They expand your coverage in specific markets where THS listing volume is lower.
Browse before you commit. Every major platform except House Carers allows free browsing without registration. Spend twenty minutes on THS and Nomador before joining either, confirm there are sits in your target location, and sign up when you find one you want.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which house sitting site is best overall?
TrustedHouseSitters has the largest global listing count, the most developed verification and review system, and the widest international coverage. It is the right starting platform for most sitters. For France specifically, Nomador is the better primary platform with over 800 French listings compared to THS's 67.
Are free house sitting sites worth using?
Free platforms lack the accountability structures that make paid platforms work. The membership fee on a paid platform is not just for access to listings. It is what motivates both homeowners and sitters to behave well and maintain their reputation. Reviews can be deleted on free platforms, accounts can be recreated, and there is no support infrastructure for disputes. We use paid platforms exclusively.
Can I browse listings before paying?
Yes, on most platforms. TrustedHouseSitters, Nomador, MindMyHouse, Aussie House Sitters, Kiwi House Sitters, House Sitters Canada, and House Sitters America all allow free browsing without registration. House Carers requires registration before browsing. Browse first, confirm there are sits in your target location, then join when you find one you want to apply for.
How many platforms should I join?
One primary platform plus one regional platform is enough for most sitters. THS plus the relevant regional platform for your target country covers the vast majority of available sits. MindMyHouse at $29 per year is worth adding for continental European coverage given its low cost. Joining more than three platforms adds complexity without proportional benefit.
Do platforms charge both homeowners and sitters?
It varies by platform. TrustedHouseSitters charges both parties separately or together on a combined plan. Nomador, MindMyHouse, and House Carers make listing free for homeowners and charge sitters only. The Aussie, Kiwi, Canada, UK, and America regional platforms typically charge both parties at comparable rates.
